Learning Plans
Learning Plan #1

Age group:
Sr. Kindergarten (5 years)
Material used:
Tricycle bikes, traffic signs, sidewalk chalks, traffic cones
Skilled developed:
Based on children’s interest in riding tricycles during outdoor activities and their ability to read signs on the street,
I planned an activity by creating traffic signs and setting them up during outdoor activities. Children and I drew a road with coloured chalk and placed traffic cones. While some children ride tricycles to cross the road, others held the sign and gave verbal instructions (e.g., Stop here! Now it’s green light, ready, go!). They further created more signs by themselves to use in the activity. This allowed children to develop their communication, language, and literacy skills, as well as their physical skills, in a fun way while building positive relationships with others.
Learning Plan #2

Age group:
Grade 1 (6 years)
Material used:
Grocery Items, price list, markers, printed school money, origami papers
Skilled developed:
Students were highly engaged in role-play in the drama centre with a grocery stand as a clerk and customers. As they were learning about Canadian coins, I decided to add some props to elevate their learning experience. I made a price list and encouraged students to complete it by labelling the products and adding school money in the cash register so that they could have a closer to real-life experience. Since the students were developing in various areas, I decided to make a wallet and create a grocery list with them, which allowed them to take initiative in the learning environment.
Learning Plan #3

Age group:
Grade 4-5 (10-11 years)
Material used:
Sticky notes, markers, world map
Skilled developed:
Students were looking at the map and talking about countries, so I decided to plan an activity to explore cultural diversity. Children were eager to point out the countries and discuss their shapes and sizes. Then they wrote down the name of the country, the language they speak, and people they know who are from those countries (e.g., their grandmother, a friend, themselves). We further read books about continents and countries to gain knowledge and have a better understanding of other cultures and ethnicities.
Learning Plan #4

Age group:
Senior preschool (3.5 to 5 years)
Material used:
Magnifiers, buckets, toy insects
Skilled developed:
In the preschool room, children were taking care of the room pet, snails, by feeding cucumbers and spraying water.
As children were interested in observing little creatures in nature, I decided to plan an activity accordingly. I brought some realistic toy insects and hid them on the leaves, trees, and sand in the playground. Children were eager to look for them and discuss what they found with peers and educators. This activity allowed children to learn basic concepts of science in nature while developing mathematical skills (i.e., counting an insect’s legs) and communication skills.
Learning Plan #5

Age group:
Children 8 and under
Material used:
Horseshoe magnets, picture cards, assorted magnetic and non-magnetic objects
Skilled developed:
At the Ontario Science Centre, children were welcomed to test various objects and materials to see if they are attracted to the magnet or not. They experimented with different shapes and sizes of magnets, as well as various objects to see how the strength and distance of the magnetic attraction vary. Utilize the chart to categorize the items following the experiment, classifying them into the categories of magnetic and non-magnetic while providing a visual representation of the results.
Learning Plan #6

Age group:
All age (ideal for 3+)
Material used:
Coloured construction papers, markers, clips, magnets, cut-out picture or drawing
Skilled developed:
On a sheet of paper, children will draw their own mazes using coloured markers, marking the starting and ending points. They'll then create special maze runners by drawing and cutting out different shapes. After attaching a paperclip to their maze runner, they can use magnetic wands to guide their shape maze runners through the handmade mazes, observing the magnetic forces that attract the paperclipped maze runner. Try each other's maze as well!
Learning Plan #7

Age group:
All age (ideal for 3+)
Material used:
Leaves, plexiglass board, tapes and craft materials
Skilled developed:
The fall has arrived at the Science Centre. Children were welcomed to make their own plant frame with fall leaves we found from outdoor walk. They laid out a couple of leaves, along with colourful feathers to make our plant frame more creative and interesting. Then we masked the edges with patterned tape to hold the boards together. Then closely look at those leaves with magnifying glasses. What colour is it? How does it look like? Can you see their veins?
